Our Story

Zugara was founded back in 2001 as an interactive marketing agency. And for seven years we developed award-winning interactive strategies and applications for brands like Sony, Toyota, Reebok, Lexus, Casio, The U.S. Air Force & Hasbro.

But in 2008, we found ourselves fascinated with augmented reality. We couldn’t shake the idea that augmented reality was going to revolutionize the way we all interact with computers. It was going to make everything more natural. Not overnight of course, but we could see the day when computers reacted to us, rather than vice versa. We could see the day when our motions, gestures and voice drove our experiences rather than just a keyboard and a mouse. These new and natural interaction methods are quite simply called, The Natural User Interface or “NUI”.

Ultimately, it was this vision of the future that shifted Zugara’s path. We decided to focus on using augmented reality and the natural user interface to create strategy driven experiences and software. The platform didn’t matter, PC, smartphone, Kinect – Zugara’s mission was simple – to create experiences that people loved, yet yielded measurable results.

The first “problem” we tackled? The ecommerce shopping experience. We quickly began designing, developing and testing a prototype of our virtual dressing room, The Webcam Social Shopper (WSS). It’s now six years later, and we have WSS clients & resellers all over the world and shoppers who love using our virtual dressing room software.  Our software is now available for the web, for events and for in-store retail. We also have a growing patent portfolio in the Augmented Reality Retail and Natural User Interface space.
