Augmented Reality Retail For Enterprise

Zugara SAP Augmented Reality Retail for Enterprise

This past week, Zugara presented Augmented Reality Retail opportunities for the Enterprise at the SAP Augmented Reality for the Enterprise event.  The event was held at SAP and featured speakers from Zugara, NGRAIN, Blippar and Atheer Labs.  There were some interesting discussions around Augmented Reality’s role in the enterprise – especially for manufacturing, industrial design, advertising and retail industries.  SAP has a blog post with recap and highlights from Augmented Reality for Enterprise event here.

Zugara’s presentation was focused on how Augmented Reality has evolved on the enterprise side of retail and how brands and retailers have been deploying Virtual Dressing Room technology.  A few of these Virtual Dressing Room use cases were also presented at the AWE Asia conference last year and we have a more detailed blog post on Virtual Dressing Room use cases and product engagement here. As we noted during the presentation, latest retail figures still show that almost 90% of retail conversions happen in-store and conversion rates also remain highest in-store. This presents an interesting dilemma for retailers as ecommerce and mcommerce usage grows but has substantially lower conversion rates.  There are also the associated costs with shoppers ordering multiple sizes of the same outfit via ecommerce and subsequent return shipping costs.

Virtual Dressing Room technology is one Augmented Reality Retail tactic that can be deployed effectively in malls or storefront displays to drive potential shoppers in store for the higher conversion opportunity.  There are also some Virtual Dressing Room developments we spoke to at the event including mobile integration, biometric analytics and social shopping to increase virtual dressing room technology’s role as an important touchpoint in an omni-channel retail environment.
